Él se crió en una casa humilde de tabla y guano pero donde todas las noches de su infancia escuchaba cantar punto guajiro. Es además egresado de la escuela formadora de maestros de San Cristóbal, Pinar del Rio. Comenzó como artista aficionado en Radio Guamá, y luego en agosto del 1989, como artista profesional de la Empresa Antonio María Romeu, en La Habana, trabajando en programas campesinos de radio y televisión de la capital cubana hasta el 2002 en que emigra a Miami, donde sigue cultivando exitosamente el arte de la improvisación en mÚltiples programas radiales y televisivos. En 1994 y en 1995, fue dos veces Primer Premio en un Festival Nacional de poesía improvisada que tuvo lugar en Limonar, Matanzas.
