Description: Really interesting yearbook for Platoon 272 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, with training dates in 1974. What makes this book special is the 20 original signatures inside the front cover. A couple of the men I was able to find in marine records or interviews online served in WWII--specifically Hiram Quillin, who joined after Pearl Harbor and Raymond F Temple, who the Manchester Evening Herald noted was in the USMC when he became engaged in Jan, 1946. I didn't have time to track all these fellows down, but they don't seem to be 1974 platoon members, as these are listed with photos toward the back of the book. Also, a few of them list their wives as well in front. So, I'm guessing these signatures were gathered at some WWII appreciation event either at the base or after the original book owner left. In addition to the historic signatures of men no longer with us, there are approx 80 pages filled with photos of training and activities at the base, in addition to those named photos of men in this platoon. Also in a beautiful decorated binding. Book is in good overall condition with light wear and corner bumping.
