Description: A nice example of a WW-I & WW-II eraRoyal Naval'HMS Resolution'Crew Member's Pill Potas converted from a Lady's Compact, (usually bought for a loved-one from the on-board shop of NAAFI) Launched in 1916,HMS Resolution was one of 5 Revenge Class Battleshipscommissioned by the Royal Navyduring the Great War. Seeing no combat action in WW-I, during the inter-war years, she alternated between the Atlantic & Mediterranean Fleets. However at the outbreak of World War Two in 1939,HMS Resolution was assigned to North Atlantic Convoy dutiesthen in May 1940 fought at the Battle of Narvikin the early-war Norwegian Campaign. In June 1940 she took part in the destruction of the French Naval Fleet atMers-el-Kebirat Oran in French Algeriato prevent it being used by the Kriegsmarine after France surrendered to Nazi Germany. Later damaged in the Battle of Dakar(the unsuccessful attempt in 'Operation Menace'to capture the French port of Dakar in French West Africa),she was refitted at Freetown before re-entering Fleet Service on convoy escort duties off Africa. In 1943 she returned to the UK, was decommissioned and used as a training shupfor the rest of WW-II and up until 1948,when she was finally paid, off, sold & ultimatelyscrapped at Fastlane in Scotland....another ignominious end for such a fine British warship. This lovely wee pot, measuring some 2" across, has obviously seen 'some action'but is a still great naval souvenir and, stamped 'Made in England' on the base, bears the proud crest of HMS Resolution to the front. (Photo. courtesy of The Tomahawk Films WW-II Archive) Thanks for looking..!
