Description: STK: #BAYO-10Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI March 1917 US Made British Contract Pattern 1914 bolt Action Rifle Pattern 1913 Sword Bayonet & Soft Leather / Metal Scabbard Manufacturer: Remington Arms Company Model: Pattern 1913 Blade Length: 17" Serial #: N/A TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI US / British contract Remington bolt action 1914 rifle Pattern 1913 bayonet and scabbard. It was made in March of 1917. This also comes with a metal and soft leather scabbard. The U.S. manufacturers made Pattern 1914 rifles and Pattern 1913 bayonets for the British to help supply them for the war effort. As the war dragged on and the U.S. got involved they started making a U.S. version M1917 rifle and M1917 bayonet. Both rifles and bayonets were identical, except for calibers. To differentiate the bayonets from the SMLE rifles, vertical grooves in the grip were carved for the 1914 bayonet. These also fit the Winchester 1897 shotgun. The two manufacturers were Remington Arms Co. and Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light erosion, impact marks, and scrapes. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the wood grips to the tang. They have light tool marks but strong slots. The wood panels have compressions and draglines. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, fullers and sides have light superficial oxidation and scrapes. There are no nicks or dings on the blade edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The remaining finish has turned a gray patina color. The left ricasso is marked "1913 / 3 17" and "Remington" within a circle. The right ricasso is marked with a broad arrow over a crown and several British acceptance and proof marks. The soft leather / metal scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely attached. Both the locket and chape are securely attached to the leather body. The locket has a slight wiggle, but is normal for leather this old, it is almost not worth mentioning. The locket and chape both have oxidation and scrapes. Some of the metal has changed to a gray patina color. The leather body has no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly. The leather has dried out a little bit and there are scrapes and scratches. The finish has darkened with age. Both the locket and chape are marked "RE" and the leather is marked with the British broad arrow over what appears to be "D / 10". This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your British WWI rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
