There was a shortage of bayonets in the early years of WWI in Germany. To equip the rapidly expanding army, various Ersatz (substitute) bayonets were manufactured in local workshops resulting in various variations. They were originally made with 12" blades, but were cut down to 10" blades when they were assigned to the Turkish forces. This one is one of the ones that has been cut down. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good Plus - Fine condition, considering its age. It has been shortened from 12" to 10". The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. The guard is securely fastened to the tang. It has light scrapes, impact marks and oxidation. The metal grip also has scrapes and a couple very small spots of oxidation. It is securely attached to the blade. The spine, sides and fuller have light handling marks, but no notable damage. The blade appears to have been sharpened and does NOT have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The blade is in the white. There are no visible markings. The metal scabbard is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age. The mouth, body and finial have light impact marks, scrapes and a little bit of oxidation, most notably near the finial. The frog stud is securely attached. The finish is in the white, either it was stripped of its color, or it was a ceremonial dress scabbard possibly. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your German / Turkish M1903, M1935 rifle, or WWI bayonet collection.
