Description: This is a very nice World War I French Croix de Guerre on parade bar that is in excellent condition. The cross is of bronze with stippled pattern on the obverse and reverse of the arms. The front disk features the relief image of the French Republic in the form of the bust of a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap surrounded by the circular relief inscription “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE”. The reverse is with the dates, “1914” over “1917”. The original ribbon is strong and with good color. Affixed to the ribbon is one bronze star for citations in the orders of the Army and two bronze stars for citations at the Regiment or Brigade level. The ribbon is suspended from the classic French ball-end parade bar which has a mini Fourragere attached to it indicating a second award of the cross. It is worthy of note that every Croix de Guerre awarded carries at least one citation for gallantry or courage to a member of any rank of the French military or of an allied army. It was one of the most coveted awards for gallantry during the First World War.7948
