Description: This is the scrapbook from which all of the items for John originated from. I tried to show most of the relevant personal items but probably did not get them all. There are several other pages mostly filled with newspaper clippings or other similar items collected by the mother relating to the war and specifically to John's involvement when appropriate. As show there are several of his papers concerning enlistment, correspondence etc, plus a treasure trove of photos which include him, his family and members of the community or local "pals" who were also soldiers in the war. The scrapbook is not bound due to age and several items were not present when I acquired it. One special item in this lot is the near pristine 11th Airborne patch shown in the picture, which I can only assume was from John. There are some other 11th Airborne ephemera and a few items from other units. There are a lot more photos, mostly of him and other soldiers, and many when he was on leave to come back home. I think some are of his relatives who were also soldiers. Also some items from his travels prior to deployment in the Philippines. Many of the photos I stitched together to try to get as many as I could in to this listing Corporal John R. Curran #35093223 was a Surgeon with the 221st Medical Company attached to the 11th Airborne Division. He enlisted in July of 1942 from Indianapolis, Indiana and was stationed at Camp Mackall prior to deployment to the Pacific theater, where he was involved in campaigns in New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon and the Liberation of Manila and the Philippines, before finally being stationed in Japan after the War until deactivation. He received a Purple Heart for action in Luzon. His campaign was dutifully documented in a scrapbook by his mother, to which this was a part. It includes pieces documenting his progress such as enlistment papers and programs from events like football games, boxing matches and church service programs from his initial enlistment in Brazil, Indiana through training at Camp Mackall and reserve at Camp Polk, deployment to New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, Manila and finally occupied Japan. The majority of the scrapbook is being offered together with many personal photos, documents etc. of him as collected through the war, with select pieces or groups offered individually. I will be listing these items periodically so if interested please stay tuned to my listings and reference his name or the 11th airborne when doing a search on eBay for these items.H16
