Description: A really nice example of the Luftwaffe’s basic, shearling lined leather flight helmet for winter wear, manufactured up until around 1943. Made without provision for wired communication and used primarily for training and combat crew positions, as well as by fighter pilots early in the war. This is a later production example as it features two greyed metal attachment hooks and an adjustable top strap with attachment for use with the Model 10-67 oxygen mask. The leather is in excellent condition and is supple with no holes or tears. The short lambs wool lining shows light usage wear throughout. The stitching is all present and in good order. Most wear can be seen on the interior strap linings and brow pad. There is no indication of an L.B.A mark or date on the interior of the chinstraps. There is some surface marking/ corrosion to both of the chinstrap buckles, and the greying to both oxygen mask hooks is worn through use. The press studs on the two rear retaining straps are fully functioning and in good order. Label reads: STRIEGEL & WAGNER KOM.GES. LICHTENFELS/BAYER.OSTMARK Size is marked as 56
