The badge is a III Class Silver Order for National Merit. It is a must have for militaria collectors or anyone interested in the history of the former Yugoslavia. The Order of Merit for the People was a decoration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in two degrees. The Order was established by the Presidency of the Anti-Fascist Council of the People's Liberation of Yugoslavia on June 9, 1945, and the Medal of Merit for the People was established by the same decision. It was awarded — for special merits gained in the fight against the enemy for the liberation of the country, for merits in the construction of socialism and socialist self-governing relations, for organizing and strengthening the national defense, security and independence of the country, as well as for merits in the fields of economy, science and culture. The order was awarded to individuals, it could also be awarded to military units or institutions, and it was worn on the right side of the chest. With the Law on Amendments to the Law on Decorations of the FNR of Yugoslavia from March 1, 1961, the name of the Order was changed, and since then it has had the following lines: -Order of Merit for the People with a Golden Star (formerly Order of Merit for the People, 1st Class) — 11th in the order of importance of Yugoslav awards. -Order of Merit for the People with Silver Rays (formerly Order of Merit for the People of the 2nd Class) — 20th in the order of importance of Yugoslav decorations. -Order of Merit for the People with a silver star (formerly the Order of Merit for the People of the 3rd Order) — 30th in the order of importance of Yugoslav awards. The author of the Order of Merit for the People and the Medal of Merit for the People was the Yugoslav painter Đorđe Andrejević Kun. The order is circular in shape, and the base consists of rays with a five-pointed star on which is a male figure with an unfurled flag. In all three rows, the Order is visually identical, and only the material of manufacture differs depending on the degree.
