Many of these sick bastards who were cold blooded killers with their black uniforms were nothing but scared and weak little mice without their jackboots. After escaping, through a series of events, Friedman makes his way toward the Russian front hoping to join the advancing Russian army in their fight against the Nazis. He tells the story beautifully and how he became sort of a low level Russian military expert on finding and arresting German Nazis as well as civilian collaborators. Over a period of time, through trial and error, he became expert on extracting information from these collaborators and German Nazis from recently liberated areas. He uses this experience to further the cause of bring these scum to justice even if he has to hand them over to the Russians after the conclusion of the war. He works unpaid for benevolent organizations, including Simon Wiesenthal. Many of these organizations, for the most part, pay his expenses, food, clothing, and so forth in order to hunt down the worst Nazi leaders who have often change their names, move and hide in a sympathetic Germany or Austria. He tells the story of how he had to bribe public officials to find some of these. The rest is history as he tells how he helped hunt down probably the most cunning and evil mastermind behind the entire German concentration camp organization, Adolf Eichmann.
