Description: Ten-volume antique set of the collected works of Goethe, in English translation. Known as the Gottingen Edition, this set is numbered by hand number "406" in a limited print run of 1000, circa 1901. Hardcover volumes with no markings observed to the text. Gilded topstain to text blocks, pleasantly leafy deckled edges to the other sides of text block. Some of the books have one or both hinges that are weakened to a greater or lesser degree (some examples of varying severity are shown in photos). Then a few of the books seem not to be affected withs secure binding at both hinges. All of the books will support a careful perusal. Light to moderate physical wear to edges and corners of spines and boards, and variously affecting the title plates on spines. The cloth on boards shows light rubbing and fading but has fared well overall. A complete antique set that remains presentable and functional. Please inspect all photos.
