Description: This is a Wildfowlers Red Breasted Merganser Drake Decorative Decoy. It was hand painted by Patricia Carey in 1984 and has her signature, date, and the Wildfowlers Stamped logo on the underneath. It is about 1/2 life size, weighing 13 ounces and measuring 11.5 inches from beak to tail. The Company that makes Wildfowler Decoys was founded in 1939 and established a reputation for well made working decoys. The Company changed owners and locations a number of times, ending up in Babylon, NY, in 1977. This decoy is one of the ones made in Babylon. Those decoys were well done, but the earlier ones are more valued by collectors, rightly so. Anyway, this guy is still a nice decoy and one that might appeal to someone familiar with Red Breasted Mergansers. Merganser decoys are fairly uncommon and they are such a beautiful bird, one to be enjoyed but not really sought after by hunters.
