Ferrocerium Rod or Firesteel: This "tiny but mighty" firesteel can create 5500 F (3000 C) sparks that will start a fire in the toughest conditions. It has a short and bright lanyard on one end attached with a red tape. This will also make the ferro rod visible. Since it is small, it can easily be lost if you accidentally drop it without the bright red tape and lanyard. By inserting your ring finger up to the joint closest to the tip of your finger then twisting the lanyard, it will give you a much better hold on the end of the ferro rod when you strike it. Please see picture. You can use the ferrocerium rod to ignite the unraveled, fluffed-up jute rope or any fine tinder that is flammable. Utility Blade: The spine of the Hunter knife does not have a sharp 90-degree angle. Don't use the blade of the knife but instead use this tough utility blade to strike the "tiny but mighty" ferro rod. This utility blade come with a handmade sheath or cover.
