Description: For your consideration, I am selling a frame of stone artifacts from the estate of an exploration geologist. He traveled various western areas from the 1940's through 1970's including; the mid-west, Montana, Idaho(?), Colorado(?), New Mexico, and Arizona, as I have been told by family members. They believe he collected these specimens. However, where these particular artifacts came from, they do not know, only that they had seen the artifacts in their home since they were children (now 70's). The artifacts were housed in a simple black frame (20" x 16" on exterior), without glass. The artifacts are glued to an art board (17-3/4" x 14") with an off-white canvas surface (see photos). I have not removed the artifacts from the board, although, one is has fallen off and is missing. The artifacts: Please inspect the photos provided. There are 45 artifacts on the board. I would classify them as: 27+/- stone projectile points, at least five (complete or partial) stone knives, and at least four stone scrapers. There is one crescent-shaped tool. Others, are partial pieces and not diagnostic (or, at least problematic) as to tool type. These artifacts appear to be from several areas of the west. Most appear to be of middle to late-archaic period manufacture. There is one nicely-made paleo-Indian projectile point base (Plainview?). It is possible that the crescent-shaped artifact is also paleo-Indian in age, based on examples from Oregon, but I am not familiar with those artifacts. There are also at least three arrow projectile points (post-1500 BP?). The large, beautifully-flaked, willow-leaf shaped biface (knife?) is likely of late archaic age (4000-2000 BP?) and is 3.66" x 1.06" (93 mm x 27 mm). Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to respond. Thank-you for taking a look!
