Description: This listing is for a hand carved wooden tribal animal form, with an aged patina, depicting a quadruped, from West Africa. In alternating rounded volumes with more angular shapes, the sculptor defined the zoomorphic figure along a horizontal axis that dominate the composition. The sculptor's rendition of the animal's morphology makes it resemble less a horse than other mammals such as a a reptile. We have not located a scholar who defined it as a specific species. The sculpture measures 14” long x 4” high x 5.5”wide. It is gently used with deep patina and small scattered holes indicating its age. Take a look at the photos for any and all condition issues.
