Description: Wedgwood & Co Eagle oval Platter 1890s Blue Transferware. This is a very large beautiful platter, 19 3/4" x 16". It has been passed between generations in the family. This platter was made by Podmore, Walker, Wedgwood & Co. Earthenware manufacturers at a number of pottery factories in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The company specialized in transferware for export to the American market. In 1835 Enoch Wedgwood (a distant cousin of Josiah Wedgwood) became a partner in Podmore, Walker & Co. He was the '& Co' - it was later found advantageous to use the name 'Wedgwood' alone (because it gave the impression of association with the famous Josiah Wedgwood, even though Enoch Wedgwood had no association with the Josiah Wedgwood & Co business. In 1856 the business was renamed Podmore, Walker, Wedgwood & Co. Prior to 1890, their products were label "P, W & Co". In 1890, the company started labeling their products as "Wedgwood & Co". In 1900, they add "Ltd" to be ""Wedgwood & Co, Ltd" Based on this, this platter was produced between 1890 and 1900.
