Description: Wayne Thiebaud Poster 1983 1984 Signed 75th Anniversary Year UC Davis Faculty Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage, unframed poster commemorating the seventy-fifth anniversary year of University of California Davis. Please excuse the glare in the photos. The artwork depicted on the poster is Wayne Thiebaud's "Holly Park Ridge," a circa 1980 oil on canvas painting depicting an exaggerated view of a San Francisco cityscape; this painting was in the collection of Charles and Esther Campbell. I believe that the poster paper was affixed to a stiff paperboard backing by the original owner, as this is not a flexible paper poster. The board measures approximately 32 inches by 17 inches. Unpacked, this weighs approximately 3/4 pound. This would make a great addition to a modernist decor or to a collection of California art. Identification This circa 1983 poster was one of a series of commemorative posters depicting works by UC Davis faculty members. The poster is signed and dated by Wayne Thiebaud at the lower right, "Thiebaud 1984." 1983 was the seventy-fifth anniversary year of UC Davis. This poster features Wayne Thiebaud's well-known, circa 1980 oil painting, "Holly Park Ridge." The poster was printed in 1983 and it was copyrighted by The Regents of the University of California. Thiebaud (1920-2021) is an American artist associated with the pop art movement. He joined the UC Davis faculty in 1960. His most celebrated works are those of commonplace objects, such as desserts, paint cans, lipsticks, etc. Condition This piece displays well overall, as shown. The original owner is believed to have mounted the poster paper to a stiff paperboard backing, since this is not a flexible paper poster. The front side has no stains or discoloration. It appears to have some color fading, but I do not know the extent of this, since I do not know how the colors looked when this was originally printed. The signature and date do seem to be quite faded, as shown. There are purple areas at the upper and lower edges, so this color may have been originally present in a larger area; the poster was framed when I acquired it, and these areas were covered by the original framing. There is light edge wear. There are no holes or creases. The back side is as shown. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
