WATROUS Sterling Silver Ladies Coin Purse or Compact, c. 1900

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Watrous Sterling Silver coin purse or compact beautifully embossed on both front and back with fancy monogram "F" in center cartouch on each side. The interior is fitted with two coin holders one for a nickle and the other for a dime with a compartment above to hold rouge or face powder. The other side of the interior has a hinged card or money holder. The hinge is tight and compact opens and closes correctly. The interior upper edge is marked with the trademark stamp of the Watrous Mfg. Co. of Wallingford CT in business from 1896-1898 when it became a division of the International Silver Company. Measures 3 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and 1/2" deep. Weighs 95 grams. This lovely case is very good Estate condition with no major flaws and reflecting minimal signs of normal wear. There are a couple of very faint indentations on the front in the center upper left corner that are barely noticeable, the support that holds the money is intact but not tight and there are signs of minor silver coating in this area (looks light underside of hinge might have had some minor rust) and the small chain that should be the handle is missing. Overall, the appearance is great and the compact is in very good condition.
