Description: 1950’s Mid Century Modern (MCM) Sommerso style hand blown art glass vase designed by Gunnar Nylund. Produced by Strömbergshyttan in Sweden, during the 1950s. Signed underneath "Stromberg B894". Strömbergshyttan glassworks was founded in 1876 in Sweden and was called the Lindfors glassworks until it changed its name in 1933 when Edward Strömberg, who was the former head from Orrefors, leased the company. In 1976 it was sold to Orrefors and then closed the company in 1979. Gerda and Asta Strömberg designed most of the glass. Gunnar Nylund was the artistic leader for Strömbergshyttan from 1952-56. He later contributed designs as a freelancer. Asta Strömberg started designing glassware for Strömbergshyttan before Gunnar Nylund arrived in 1952. She renewed the range that Gerda Strömberg had created in the 1930s and 40s for the factory. Asta continued to draw models until 1976, when Orrefors took over the management and ownership of Strömbergshyttan. Please view and zoom in on photos to see details.
