Description: Vtg Our Lady of Kazan Russian Orthodox Icon Wall Hanging Metal Over Wood 5.25” This is a beautiful icon of “Our Lady of Kazan” (Kazanskaya), who is the Mother of God of Kazan. She is the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan, as well as the protector of Russia. It is said that a soldier during the iconoclasm, stabbed the original icon with a Sword and it started bleeding. This scar is displayed on the face to this icon to commemorate that miracle. The icon is made of stamped metal, which appears to be brass, over wood. It was made according to the byzantine art of iconography. We obtained this from an estate and they dated it to the 1950s from Russia. There are no markings on the icon to indicate age. The icon is in Great Vintage Condition and is ready for wall hanging.
