Narrator, Richard Baker, Conducted by Michael Bush. Never played, no seal. New. The 'Pageant' THE VALLEY AND THE HILL was commissioned by Liverpool Education Authority, with the kind assistance of Radio City, and was performed by LIverpool Schhol children on June 21st 1977, during Her ajest Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee visit to Merceyside. Over 17,000 children took part; eight scenes depicting the four seasons of the year were performed in the Metropolitan Cathedral, along the symbolically named Hope Street, culminating in the Anglican Cathedral. Her Majest graciously accept the dedication of the work 'from the composer and the children of Liverpool.' Early in 1983 2000 children from over 50 schools assembled to make this record with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra having learned their parts in the first three weeks of term. Each scene is performed by a different group of schools. Many other schools joined in the scene linking refrain and in the fine march which ends scene 1 and concludes the whole work. Liverpool has a long tradition of giving orchestral concerts for children. However, the purpose of this endeavor was not merely to produce a recording, but to give children an opportunity of making music with the City's own professional Orchestra.
