Description: Large clay or terra cotta covered bean pot or casserole, hand made in Vallauris, France with handles and lid.Glazed inside the pot and on the top of the cover. Some drips. Natural clay color on the restMeasures just about 4" tall without the lid. It is 11" across the top including the handles. Pot itself is 9-3/4" across. The lid measures 9-3/4" also. The pot has an impressed mark on the side: Vallauris and then S G with a star in the center. It is also has an impressed number 12. The lid has an impressed 11 and a partial Vallauris with something illegible on the of the mark.Great primitive look, but also usable both for cooking and display. The bottom is not perfectly flat, so best for oven or gas flame cooking. User guidelines on line for clay pots.I bought this after I spent two months in Vallauris in 1963 but never cooked in it.
