VTG Bula Fiji Wood Carving Tropical Village Scene, Souvenir Set of 6 Coasters

Description: This listing is for a very nice set of 6 wooden carved coasters with a holder. The coasters and holder depict tropical paradise village scenes. There is a different scene on each side of the holder and each coaster has a slightly different scene as well. I purchased these at an estate sale and they are in very good condition. There is minor wear to the lacquer finish on the sides of the holder and one of the coasters has a nick in the wood on the backside. The coasters and holder are lacquered with a high shine finish on one side. The coasters are unfinished on the reverse side and the holder is unfinished on the inside. They are made of a lightweight wood with a mahogany stain or finish on them. I do not know the type of wood they are made from. I was told this set is from the 1960's. The construction is still nice and tight--the dowels that connect the two pieces (front & back) of the coaster holder are not loose. They fit securely in their space with enough wiggle room to allow them to be easily removed for use and replaced when needed. My online research led me to discover the words "Bula Fiji" mean "Hello Fiji". I love that! This is such a great souvenir set of coasters! The designs are crisp and primitive, and the colors are sharp and clear. This coaster set is perfect for a travel enthusiast or anyone wanting to add a touch of the tropics to their mid-century modern, contemporary decor. The set comes from a smoke-free environment.
