UNTIL IT CLOSED, GILBERT'S WAS THE PLACE TO PURCHASE SHOES IN COLUMBUS. ** EVEN THOUGH 1968 IS OUTSIDE THE LINEN POSTCARD ERA TIMELINE, THE PC CAN BE PROPERLY DATED BY THE FACT THE GILBERT SHOE CO DID NOT OPEN ON E TOWN STREET IN COLUMBUS, OH UNTIL 1967 ... CLOSING IN 1980 ... THE PC MAY HAVE BEEN A REDUX OF AN EARLIER ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN GIVEN GILBERT'S WAS IN BUSINESS FOR DECADES LONG BEFORE IT OPENED AT THAT ADDRESS. This postcard is new old stock in Mint condition ... direct from the Curt Teich Co Archives. The card has been in our possession for approximately 15+ years ... long before the Curteich digitally archived images found their permanent home with The Newberry Institute. At the time of our acquisition, the Lake County Discovery Museum in IL was the custodian of the company's records, having served in that capacity since 1982.
