Description: This vintage 1940's era Ganscraft wool Chimayo blanket handbag with sewn on wooden handles has a tag reading 'Hand Woven, Hand Tailored in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by Ganscraft' and has a small illustrative depiction of a Chimayo weaver at his loom. This is extremely rare woven purse is in excellent condition. Ganscraft / Southwest Arts & Crafts is a merchandise store of the influential Santa Fe trader, Julius Gans, in 1916. Chimayo blanket weaving is the direct descendant of the Pueblo weaving in and around Santa Fe. Items like this were also sold at Fred Harvey Trading Posts. Tan with multi weave and wooden handles. Close up photograph shows slight wear to handle in line with age and use.
