Description: It’s very interesting to me that these pictures are always paired, as they were done by two different artists in two different parts of the world. Sidney Bell (1888-1964) , who painted “ Charlotte,” was an academically trained portrait and still life painter born and educated in England. He settled in Portland, Oregon in 1914 and became one of the most fashionable portrait artists in Oregon during his time. His influence as a teacher was seminal in the developing Portland art community. His "Charlotte" portrait is dated 1921. Arthur Paine Garratt (1873-1955) was a British artist who studied in New York during the 1920s. . His portraiture is particularly noteworthy, especially his portrait of the sculptor Auguste Rodin. It is said that this is a portrait of the artist’s son, Peter. Both works were pofessionally framed by C;A Richards of Boston, Mass. Stylistically and thematically, the works relate beautifully, and make a lovely, vintage accent in any room. These are in excellent used condition, in rich, gold-painted wood-lined maple frames with circular hanging hooks on the backs I see no flaws except expected, slight age-related scuffing on the frames and two minor white marks on the lower right corner of the “ Peter” picture. Pictures show all. These charming little ( 6 1/2”x7 1/2”) cameos will bring nostalgia and gravitas wherever they are placed. Artwork ships USPS Ground Advantage from Los Angeles.
