Description: A Blimp from Naval Air Station Tillamook over Tillamook Head in Seaside, Oregon, sometime during WW II.In the months following the devastating Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, many Oregonians lived infear. Similar air attacks or even mass beach landings did not seem out of the question in the fevered opening months of WWII as the U.S. military and civilians mobilized to prevent them. The Oregon National Guard and volunteers patrolled the beaches, sometimes on horseback armed with shotguns and .22 rifles. Much of the coastline was wrapped in barbed wire for years. Rumors of attacks were frequent, and in fact Oregon was actually shelled and bombed by the Japanese military, to little effect. Huge blimps were built and stationed at the Tillamook Naval Air Station to watch for incoming Japanese strikes. Its one of those blimps that appears in this Real Photo Postcard. Postmarked August 21, 1945 (a few days after the end of the war). I have not cleaned this item aside from a light dust off. Light soiling, dust, old age toning, dents, paint loss could be present along with other minor wear consistent with age. Please view all the photos as the are intended to be part of the description and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. I’m always willing to take additional photos or answered detailed questions. ***Please stay tuned for new auction listings every Sunday, fresh from local Maine estates. If you are interested in an item bid early as people often forget and miss out on items. I will not end listings early for any reason so please do not ask. The volume of items is too many to list but overall the areas covered are vintage toys, postcards, games, advertising related items, tins, dolls and other collectibles.***
