Description: Artist: Tadao Sato Line: Nambu Region: Hanamaki, Iwate Size: 5” Tall ***** About the artist: He was born on October 16, Showa 14, as the third son of Hideyoshi Sato and Nui, a wooden master in Minamikaji-cho, Hanamaki-cho, Hienuki-gun, Iwate Prefecture. When Tadao was 5 years old, his family moved to Aioi-cho, Hanamaki-cho. After graduating from Hanamaki Junior High School in April Showa 30, he got a job at Kimizuka Woodworking, where his father Hideyoshi worked, and became a woodworker. Eiyoshi retired in May of the same year, but Tadao himself worked for this company until his retirement in October 1999. It is said that woodworking products such as tea trays and confectionery bowls were ground here. In June 1945, he moved to Nishinomiyanome in the city, and in December 1943, he married Kikuko Oikawa in Higashiharuyama, Towa-cho, and became the father of three daughters. Around Showa 46, with the recommendation of Hideyoshi, who reduced the number of productions due to cataracts, he began to receive guidance on painting and coloring, and began making kokeshi in 1947.
