Description: You are bidding on a very uncommon, vintage “South African Defense Forces Nutria Brown Field Jacket from 1984 in a Size Large. Excellent Condition". These vintage South African Defense Force Field Jackets are just not around, particularly in a large size. This field jacket is in the distinctive Nutria brown color particular to vintage South African kit. It was practical and effective in many environments and you can see the heritage of the US military adoption of coyote brown kit in it. This field jacket has classic styling. It is waist length and has a five-button front covered with a storm flap. There are 4 large external pockets that are secured with hidden buttons. The jacket cuffs have a two-button adjustment strap for a closer fit at the wrists. The jacket also has epaulettes giving it a military look. The interior of the jacket is unlined and has waist and hem drawstring channels that are missing the strings (an easy fix should the new owner wish to replace them). The jacket has a manufacturer’s tag that is dated 1984 along with a military stock number and description as “Jacket Fielddress”. The one lower flap pocket has a cracked button that works but can be replaced with one of the 2 spare buttons sewn to the interior. Additionally, there is ink written in the name next to the interior collar tag. Looks like it may also have a rank / service number. This jacket is a true size large as I am a US 46, and it fits fine. The jacket measurements are:Pit to pit = 22”Sleeve length = 26”Front (top of collar to hem) = 30” These vintage South African Defense Force jackets are very uncommon, especially in a large size and I suspect that not a lot were released / purchased due to the then apartheid policies of the South African state.
