The round plate measures 9 inches in diameter and 2 inches in depth, with a unique spongeware pattern in cobalt blue on a beige background. The plate is an original, late 20th-century piece from the United States, with an impressed backstamp and a production technique of pottery. This set includes one plate and is a must-have for any vintage pottery collector. Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company History: In 1900, Frank Ransbottom and his brothers Ed, Johnnie, and Mort purchased the Oval Ware and Brick Company of Roseville, Ohio, and founded Ransbottom Brothers Pottery. The firm manufactured stoneware. By 1916, it was the largest producer of stoneware jars in America. Around 1920, Ransbottom merged with Robinson Clay Products Company, a manufacturer of bricks and tiles. The company name was changed to R.R.P. Company. The combined company made art pottery, garden ware, and utilitarian household products. Some products were spongeware decorated. R.R.P. Co. introduced it's Old Colony line in the mid-1930's, ceasing production in 1950. Rustic Ware was made from the mid-1930's through the 1960's. Pieces were decorated under the glaze. The products ranged from functional utilitarian pieces to pieces designed for decorative purposes. These lines were marketed under the Crown Pottery brand. R.R.P. Company survived the Depression. It ceased operations in 2005. New - Like new, excellent condition, no fading or discoloration, no cracks, chips or scratches (see pics).
