Description: this is a very unusual vintage landscape oil painting on masonite board by listed artist William A. Millett (1922 - 2007) - Millett was born in Brockton, MA (outside of Boston), & after high school, attended Scott Carbee School of Art & the Vesper George Art School, both of Boston, MA - he studied art in Paris, France at the Acadamie Frochot & in Venice, Italy, after which he studied with the great Rockport artists Aldro Hibbard & Bernard Keyes - when in Paris, he actually lived in the studio of the great French artist Toulouse Lautrec - after serving 2 years in the U.S. Navy during WW II, Millett exhibited his art at the Ross Gallery & the Parker Gallery in Boston - this painting is clearly unusual as it shows an incredibly diverse group of rocks & boulders packed together on a ledge that appears to be overlooking the ocean that we see somewhat at the top of the painting - the many colors of the rocks & boulders stand out dramatically to the viewer as the gifted artist worked with shades of beige, brown, gray, orange, pink, & green (some foliage among the rocks) to portray how he viewed this wonderful arrray of stones & boulders - the artist painted the small section of sky in shades of blue, green, & a little off-white colors to contrast with the various darker colors of the boulders & rocks - the painting measures 16" X 20" sight size, & is in very good vintage condition - itis greatly enhanced by its original gilded & dark green colored wooden frame which measures 19" x 23" & is also in very good vintage condition - the painting can be picked up at my house in Swanzey, NH by the buyer to save on the cost of shipping -
