Given the issues mentioned and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.*********** This seldom seen vintage 1970's Mondaine Universal Star has a pristine satin silvery champagne "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial and the original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a toasted orange hue. In my humble opinion the dial and patina could not be more pleasing. The bezel, which shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely with the buttermilk-hued inverted triangle lume complementing the dial and patina beautifully. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. Between the lugs at 12 o'clock is the stamping "TB 71." The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SWISS MADE - WATERPROOF - INCABLOC - ANTIMAGNETIC - STAINLESS STEEL" with "200 METRES" followed by "AUTOMATIC" stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. While I normally shows pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this watch is torqued too tight for me to remove. Based on other examples I've had the movement is likely a 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "MONDAINE WATCH Ltd" stamped ETA 2772 automatic movement with semi-quickset date function. Although it runs strong it gains significant time and the red date wheel rolls over at approximately 1 am. After winding the crown it's necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the seconds hand. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement gained about 12 hours by the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period. The crown unscrews and screws back down as it should and winds with a bit of tension. Given the issues mentioned and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm.
