One of its nicest attributes is its curved design which allows for practical charcoal starting in a kettle type grill. Simply place the coil in the center bottom of the grill beneath a rounded configuration of coals (with the handle outside of the kettle), and in 8 minutes (the recommended maximum), the coals nearest the coil will have red edges, ready to spread their ignited state to the rest of the mound of coals before they are spread out beneath the grilling surface. Another advantage of this method of coal ignition is the lack of lighter fluid smell being transferred to the food being grilled (with its associated health concerns). This lighter uses only 600 watts, from a 120 volt outlet, to create a red-hot coil which easily ignites charcoal brickets. It has a flexible, heavy duty power cord and an insulating handle, making it safe and easy to use. Although no warranty is implied or expressed, its reliability has been clearly demonstrated.
