Vintage Men's CLEBAR 17 Jewel, Shock Resist, Swiss, WW2 Era 1940s Military Watch

This watch is from that collection, as are many other brands such as Girard Perregaux, Hamilton, Mido, Elgin, Benrus, and even Le Coultre. The collection also includes some lesser-known brands from the WW2 era and early midcentury, as well as some great 1970s pieces and high-end modern watches. This listing is for a vintage men's Clebar, 17 jewel, military style watch. I recently acquired a small watch collection from an estate that includes several interesting military/military style watches. This watch looks like a WW2 era military watch, and it is definitely vintage, but I can't be sure that's it's an actual WW2 era watch, or a vintage military style watch. From my research, it does appear that Clebar made a really good military watch during WW2, and that these watches are highly collectible. This watch has a 30mm case, 16mm lug space, and a stainless steel case. The watch looks really good but with obvious signs of wear and age. The crystal is old, and has that crackled, crinkling, kind of spider web effect that happens with age. The case metal also has some pitting and wear to the finish. This is primary only on one side of the case and some around the lugs (see photos). The watch dial is quite gorgeous and looks amazing, especially for a watch of this age. The back of the case is a screw type, but it's different than most I've seen in the the notches aren't on the flat side of the case, but on the side edges. The watch case is sealed very tight. There are deliberate scratch marks on the back of the case that look like some attempting to mark their name, which further makes me think this may be from WW2. It was done to serve a practical purpose. I can definitely make out an E and an S at the end of the name. It looks like the first letter is an H and the third or fourth letter is an F or a G. There's also a first name, The letters are hard to make out up close, but when I look at the photo and pull back a bit, it looks like the name may be JACK HUGHES. I‘ve taken photos if anyone wants to try and figure out the name and tell me if my guess looks right. The watch dial says CLEBAR, 17 JEWEL, SHOCKRESIST (as one word), and SWISS MADE. The watch has a row of numbers and little marks along the outer edge that distinguish it as military style. There are also little orange dots that match the orange color of the watch hands. These hands are outlined in black. The second hand is red. The watch is manual wind and seems to run very nicely. It picks up right away when wound. I have not tested its time keeping accuracy, but the second hand moves between the second segments marked on the outer rim at exactly the "one-one-thousand-one" interval. I have videoed the watch running as proof of its working order and I'm happy to share with interested buyers. Buyers do need to keep in mind that this is a very old timepiece and there is always some risk involved when purchasing aged mechanics. I don't know this watch's history or when it was last serviced and can make no guarantees in regard to its future working condition. Buyers should anticipate the cost of future servicing and maintenance when debating whether or not to purchase. You are buying this watch AS IS. I will, however, check to see that it still runs before shipping. I will video the watch running a second time before I ship for my records and those of the new owner. If I discover the watch has stopped working while in storage, I will notify the buyer so he or she may have the option of canceling the sell at this time or renegotiating the price.
