Description: Vintage Shenango Castleton "Caprice" China Dinnerware. Made in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Pattern Description: Gray & Blue Floral On Rim, Smooth Edge, Gold Trim. Made in the U.S.A. This pattern is discontinued; it was active from ca. 1945 until 1972. Castleton China History: The Shenango China Company was a chinaware manufacturing company operating between 1902 and 1961. From 1936 to 1958, Shenango produced Haviland porcelain with the stamp: Haviland-Made in America. These products were hugely popular and lead to Rosenthal China of Germany striking a similar deal with Shenango, but these products were marketed under the Castleton China name. The business had some financial problems, causing it to change names a few times. The company was bought by Anchor Hocking in 1979. Pieces of dinnerware marked with "Castleton China" were produced during from 1948 to 1968 (per some reports, others say until 1972). This type of china was known for its modern designs and unique decoration. This dinnerware was very popular during its production phase and remains a classic find for collectors today.
