Description: Vintage Lady Head Vase Pair Hummel-Like Children RELPO 7 ½” RARE!! For sale is an adorable pair of head vases featuring children—a boy and girl—similar in appearance to the figurines designed by Maria I. Hummel for the Goebel Company in Germany beginning 1935. However, this pair was made in Japan for RELPO in the late 1960’s, presumably in very small numbers given their scarcity today. The boy is wearing a gray-brown coat with a large orange-red kerchief, as well as a green sweater cap. The girl is wearing a red jacket with a matching red sweater cap, along with a red bow in her long, braided pig tail. Both stand 7 ½ inches tall and are marked with the RELPO name and model number (K1018A for the boy and K1018B for the girl) stamped on the bottom, as well as the RELPO gold foil label. A similar pair is pictured on page 175 of Kathleen Cole’s book, Head Vases Identification and Values (second edition, 2007). Both vases are in EXCELLENT condition. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines. There is very light, tight crazing on the faces visible under bright light. The boy has a speck of missing paint in the pupil of his left eye. I don’t often use the term RARE but I think this pair qualifies. These vases are hard to find and are seldom offered, especially as a pair. Each vase will be shipped in a separate box to afford the most protection. Note: I will NOT sell the vases separately so please don’t ask. I am liquidating my long-time collection of lady head vases and other collectible figures and will be listing new items as time permits.
