Description: KAUFMANN'S PROTOTYPE ENGRAVED STORE ASSOCIATE NAME TAG Kaufmann's was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1871 by brothers Morris, Jacob, and Isaac Kaufmann. Purchased by The May Department Stores Company in 1946, the Kaufmann's chain grew to dominate its local region, absorbing several other department stores including Strouss (1986) based in Youngstown, Ohio; Sibley's (1991) based in Rochester, New York; May Company Ohio (1992) based in Cleveland, Ohio (which had merged with O'Neil's (1989) in Akron, Ohio); and in 1995 the remnants of McCurdy's stores of Rochester and Hess's of Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 2002, corporate parent May made the decision to merge the operations of Kaufmann’s with Boston based Filene’s and shuttered the Pittsburgh corporate office. After May’s acquisition by Federated Department Stores in 2005, the Kaufmann’s name was retired, and the stores were re-christened Macy’s in late 2006. This Kaufmann’s name tag is believed to be a prototype and was never rolled out to stores. The tags are engraved with only a first name and date from between 1986-1990. The names engraved on the tags match those of the Directors of Customer Service for each May Division during that period. Based on that information, we believe these were produced for a presentation at a corporate meeting. From the estate of a former May Company executive. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
