Description: No chips, cracks. Very little to no wear. Zweibrücken Castle, also known as Schloss Zweibrücken, is a magnificent Baroque building located in the town of Zweibrücken, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It was constructed as a ducal palace between 1720 and 1725. This impressive structure stands as the largest secular building (i.e., non-religious) in the Palatinate region. The castle’s history dates back to the 12th century, when a fortress known as Burg Zweibrücken was built by the Counts of Zweibrücken. Over time, the ducal family modernized and expanded their residence. In the early 18th century, Duke Gustav of Zweibrücken commissioned a new palace appropriate for his rank. The architect, Jonas Erikson Sundahl, designed it in the modern Late Baroque style for comfort and aesthetics, rather than defense. The site was marshy, so extensive preliminary work involved driving numerous oak piles into the ground to create a solid foundation. The palace has been twice destroyed and twice rebuilt, with its second reconstruction being the building that stands today.Throughout its history, the castle hosted notable artists, including the renowned operatic composer Christoph Willibald von Gluck. Today, it serves as the seat of the Palatine Higher Regional Court and the Zweibrücken law courts. Charles Church and Alexander Church For more details, please tap the "about this item" section.
