Description: c. 1940s/1950s; Jewel Tea Company/Jewel Food Stores - Chicago Vintage new store promotional painted plywood standee. This standee, also named Jewel, was used at the entrances of newly opened Jewel grocery stores. Jewel, a Midwestern grocery store chain, began business in the 19th century as a tea company before branching out to groceries and homegoods in the 1930s. This standee includes an original branded promotional sewing kit, one of the freebies that would have been stacked on Jewel's small display surface.
