Description: Vintage Official Horse/Harness Racing Photos: 8X10 B&W & Color We happened upon a large lot of these at a sale in So. Ill. and will be listing most of the better ones. Both historical and nostalgic, these represent the days when harness racing drew a great many fans to the Du Quoin State Fair for The Hambletonian, one of the U.S.T.A.'s premier races, and others like the Il. State Fair and Macon County Fair. Many of these photos were taken by Rand Broadstreet and George A. Smallsreed for publication in programs, newspapers, and harness racing journals of the day. Information on the back (in most cases) gives the name of the driver and the race date. Drivers include such heavyweights as U.S.T.A. Hall of Famers Howard Beissinger, George Sholty, and Bill Haughton. In addition, the photos and information transcribed on the back represent historical events in The Hambletonian: Speedy Somolli's 1978 3-Heat victory over Florida Pro and the info listing all three heats, finishers, and times. The photo finish of Legend Hanover's 1979 2-Heat sweep, giving driver George Sholty his first "Hambo" title. Information on many of the photos give what year the horse and driver ran in The Hambletonian - from '73 to '79' - and in races at the Illinois State Fair. These photos have obviously been around for many years. Some have fading, some yellowing, some have small tears around the edges, but all still have their integrity of appearance. When matted and framed, they look marvelous! Great for the harness racing enthusiast, to decorate restaurants and pubs, or perhaps there is someone with a personal connection to one of these great warriors.
