Vintage HO Brass NWSL TOHO 4-6-2 E-2a N&W #578 Pacific, Runs Well, C7

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Offering this HO brass 4-6-2 E-2a Norfolk & Western #578 Pacific steam locomotive built by TOHO of Japan (1967-1971) and imported by NorthWest Short Line (1959-present). It was a “Custom Run” in 1972 produced in limited quantity; but, the exact number is unknown. I have the original box in VG-EX (P6-7) condition along with the foam casing in EX condition. Also included is a bag containing the BRAKES to be mounted in predrilled holes (see PIC close-up) and some bolts/screws. There is some literature on this loco including some minor instructions. I obtained this loco at a Collector Estate Auction, so I don’t know its history. It appears to be in EX condition with minimal age darkening and minimal rail time. I do see a “heat spot” on top of the tender and some dirt on the front landing. Solder/flux is showing in multiple places on both units and the engine shows some reddish coloring on the front above the pilot (see PIC close-up). There is darkening on the smoke stack. The rear view showing the open frame motor looks unusual. Actually, it is shiny bare metal with some darkening. Nothing wrong, not a flaw. I am not aware of any other flaws. Check out the pictures for yourself. I tested the loco on my DC test track and it ran very well in F&R, even at low speed. No lights or smoke. The instructions indicate the track curves be limited togreater than 22”. Box says 19”. The engine alone weighs 1 lb. 1 oz. with the tender at 7 oz. With 6 drive wheels, it should pull a nice size load and look good running the rails of your layout. A nice addition for your collection, too.
