Description: This is a Herter's Model Perfect Hen Mallard Working Decoy. It has a balsa wood body with a carved hardwood head and an iron keel, also made by Herter's. It is well used with portions of the original paint worn and the underneath of the beak has a good sized chip. There is no identifying marking on either the decoy or the keel but we found examples of some online to help identify it. It is 14 inches long, 6 inches wide, 5 inches tall, and the keel adds another inch. With the keel, it weighs 1 pound, 13 ounces. Collectors of Herter's Decoys will know more about this decoy than we do. We did find pictures of one identical to it on line and we also found a photo of the Herter's iron keel which this one has. But we really do not know when it was made for sure. The history of the Herter's Company is very interesting and we have loved their Catalog which had literally 1000's of items, nearly all touted as the world's finest or most perfect. They were once a huge mail order company but went bankrupt in the late 1970's. This decoy has a chip out of the underneath of the beak, otherwise it is in good working condition. Pricing is a guess and we invite your offer. We can ship it for under $15.00 within the U.S. and accept returns for any reason.
