Description: Vintage German Christmas Nativity 5" Shepherds Metal Staff & Wood Walking Stick Here are 2 vintage hand painted paper-mache Nativity figures that came together in an estate lot with other Nativity figures that were marked "Germany". These 2 shepherds however are not marked as one base is damaged and both are missing the paper coverings that would have been marked with the country of manufacture. Seem to be a similar scale and look nice together. The figures are made of some type of paper mache material, and are lightweight. Hand painted.I have placed a ruler in some pictures for size reference. The shepherd with a wooden walking stick is about 5 1/8" tall and weighs about 3 oz. The shepherd with the metal staff is almost 5 1/2" tall (and 7 1/8" to the crook of the staff) and weighs about 2 oz.These old figures have some paint wear and aging. The front portion of the base of the shepherd with the wood walking stick is broke off (the piece is missing). The shepherd with the metal staff has some cracks and chipping. No musty or smoke odor.- Standing Shepherd: Beige short gown or tunic with long brown robe, dark green hat in his hand. Brown hair and beard. He is barefoot. There is a long metal staff that is inserted through a hole in the hand and base. There is a crack on the back of the hand that holds the staff and little chips around the hole opening. There is a 1" crack at the lower base and a surface chip on the base side. Missing the paper base covering (has a piece of masking tape inside to keep the staff in place).- Standing Shepherd: Dark green coat, light brown pants and top, brown shoulder bag, dark brown boots. Balding head with gray hair and beard. Dark greenish-brown tree trunk base that has the front half broke off (and the toe of one boot is broke off). There is a wooden walking stick inserted through the clasped hands. The figure stands firmly with the broken base. Small paint flake on the back of the coat.Please note: the bright white spots in my pictures are camera glare. Hand painted, some gold and silver accent.I have placed a ruler in some pictures for size reference. The standing Wise Men / Kings are about 5" tall. These 5 figures weigh about 8 oz together.Four figures are stamped "Germany" underneath and the standing white King is missing the paper covering over the bottom that would have been stamped. Two base coverings also have a handwritten number 10 which may have been the original price in cents.These old figures have some paint wear, crackling, and aging. I point out where there is more paint wear and some little nicks or chips. The back of the white King is cracked. More spotting to the brown robe paint on one shepherd. It's possible I overlooked some defect. No musty or smoke odor.- Standing Black King: Turquoise gown with gold trim, orange robe, darker orange turban with gold crown, red slipper. Holds a silver vessel.- Standing White King: Brown gown with gold trim, green robe, blue turban with gold trim, silver slippers, gray beard. Holds a gold vessel. The back is cracked. Missing the base paper covering. Small green paint flake on the side rim. - Kneeling Black King: Purple gown with gold trim, red robe, green turban, gold slipper, black hair and beard. Holds a gold vessel. The turban has more wear to the accent paint around the top and there are small chips to the front rim paint.- Kneeling Shepherd: Brown robe with blue trim along the sleeves, red slipper, gray hair and beard. The brown paint is spotted / discolored. The nose is scraped, small paint flakes on the hair, finger, sleeve and base rim.- Kneeling Shepherd holding a hat: Brown jacket, gray pants, ivory socks, beige or golden brown shirt and slippers. Seem to be a similar scale and look nice together. The figures are made of some type of paper mache material, and are lightweight. Hand painted, some gold accent.I have placed a ruler in some pictures for size reference. Three kneeling figures are about 4 1/2" tall and the angel is about 3 1/2" tall. These figures weigh about 10 oz together.Three figures are stamped "Germany" underneath and the kneeling shepherd is missing the paper covering over the bottom that would have been stamped.These old figures have some paint wear, crackling, and aging. I point out where there is more paint wear and some little nicks or chips. It's possible I overlooked some defect. No musty or smoke odor.- Kneeling Angel: White gown with gold trim, gold wings, gold star on the front hair. There is significant chipping to the paint along the lower front gown and rim.- Kneeling Joseph: Paint chipping on the black hair and beard, dark brown robe. Some loosening to the paper covering on the bottom.- Kneeling Mary: Beautiful painted face. Gold trim on the white gown. Blue robe. Minor paint wear on the figure, a few little paint flakes along the brown base rim.- Kneeling Shepherd: Grey gown with red trim along the sleeves. Grey hair and beard. Light wear on the hair and beard, little surface scuff on the nose. More chipping along one sleeve, small chip on the front base. Please note: the bright white spots in my pictures are camera glare.
