Description: On offer, we have a vintage jacket from Geoffrey Beene Couture. Beene (1924-2004) was one of the finest American fashion designers of the 20th century. Most noted for his technical skills, this is a remarkable example of his craftsmanship. He is also remembered for his choices of amazing European fabrics; again, this is an excellent example of his style. The jacket is an easy fit or shirt style with button front and 2 large flap pockets. The fit is loose, with back pleats on the shoulders. The cotton fabric has a print of antique playing cards line quilted with blue and white stripes and red checks on the back. The buttons are clear with black edges. Please notice the double stitched seams, the print perfectly matched and hand sewn details. The only label is "Geoffrey Beene" because this was a couture trunk show custom order. Without a size label, my best guess is that this is a medium or size 10/12. I measure this as approximately 16" across the shoulders, 43" around the bust, 44" at the waist, 48" at the hips and 27" long with 23" sleeves. The sleeve length will change if you remove the shoulder pads. No problem if the sleeves are too long, just fold them back and make cuffs showing off the hand sewn red check band. This appears to be in excellent condition. The fabric feels clean and crisp. I see no damages or any signs of wear ; but, there are 2 missing buttons. The top button under the collar and the button for the left front pocket flap. As I am not an expert, please see my photographs for more description. This belongs to my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with many of her treasures. This is from her aunt's estate; she played bridge, and also enjoyed visiting the Magic Castle.
