Description: This seldom seen Gallet MultiChron 12HR, which was produced in very small numbers during the Quartz Crisis in the late 1970's, is likely as nice an example as you will ever find. A picture of another example can be found at the following link and then scrolling down to the bottom of the page where its picture can be seen above the caption that reads "At the Horse Races": http://galletwatch.homestead.com/gallet_history_famous_watches.htmlIf the picture is clicked a bit of history is given. Gallet was also been contacted about this particular watch, confirming it to be genuine and entirely correct, down to the unsigned movement that was produced during a time when Gallet was doing everything it could to save on manufacturing costs. I'd humbly suggest you reach out to Gallet if you have any concerns regarding its authenticity. The matte black "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and no longer emits a glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching buttermilk hue. The vibrant red seconds hand complements the red accented minute and hour hands beautifully. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish to the top of the midcase and polished sides, shows minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "1306 - 50" followed by "511." The crystal shows light scratching. The 17 jewels unadjusted and unsigned Valjoux 7750 automatic movement with quickset day and date functions is exceptionally clean, keeps accurate time, both the day and date wheels roll over at approximately 12 am and all chronograph functions work as they should. The quickset day function works by pulling the crown out to the first position and then turning it counterclockwise. The quickset date function works in the same manner except the crown needs to be turned clockwise. The top pusher starts and stops the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher resets the minute (top subdial) and hour (bottom subdial) hands back to precisely zero. The pushers have a nice, old school catch and release feel with no signs of gumminess. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement fired up after approximately 15 full revolutions and had a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 22.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the midcase, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 13 mm.Although the movement keeps accurate time with all functions working perfectly as they should given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided. Thanks for looking!
