Description: VINTAGE C.P. GOERZ BINOCULARSThis is a pair of 9-power, prism, Trieder series binoculars, made by C.P. Goerz of Berlin. The Trieder series with a rack and pinion focus mechanism in 3X, 6X, 9X, and 12X were the first prism binoculars made by Goerz and were manufactured from 1897 – 1911. Some Trieder series binoculars such as this one employed rack and pinion central focus mechanism and IPD adjustment which although unique was discontinued in subsequent models in favor of the more practical hinge design.The triangular barrels have rounded edges and are covered with original leather. The eye end of the left prism housing is marked “C. P. GOERZ BERLIN.” The one on the right is marked “TRIEDER” and “BINOCLE” with the trademark initials “C.P.G.” inside a triangle prism in between. "9X" and "GERMANY" is stamped on the bridge connecting the barrels on the eyepiece end. The number “35896” on the cross-frame is the production number indicating a production date between1900-1911. The frame is aluminum and brass. The eyecups appear to be made of a plastic material that is cracked on the left eyecup.(see image 3) There is a set of wheels in the center that adjusts the focus. Another wheel adjusts the distance between the two halves of the instrument. Printed on the outside of the connecting bridge is “B.W. Peterson Wheeling, West VA” There are metal loops on the barrels where a strap one was. Etched on the outside end of the barrels are the words “U.S. Navy” and “RO24350” The carrying case is leather with a dark velvet lining and is fitted to this pair of binoculars. All moving parts are fully functional but could benefit from a good cleaning. Our relics are ALWAYS guaranteed authentic!
