Vintage Corgi Lotus Esprit from "The Spy Who Loved Me" 007 J. Bond No Missiles

Description: The Lotus Esprit S1 became the second most famous Bond car, after the DB5, when it appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977. In the movie, The car is provided by Q Branch to James Bond, MI6 Agent 007, on the island of Sardinia. James Bond then uses the vehicle to escape attacks by the antagonist's henchmen, Jaws and Naomi in her helicopter. Bond escapes most famously by driving the Lotus into the Mediterranean Sea and transforming the car into a submarine. His beautiful passenger, the Soviet spy Major Anya Amasova is less than impressed, as she already had stolen blueprints for the car two years earlier. The Lotus was chosen for the film because it was a glamorous car to drive, which suited the character of Bond. With the announcement that Roger Moore would drive a new model of car in this James Bond film, CORGI announced a die-cast scale model of the white Lotus Esprit, which lent itself to the many gimmicks that could be incorporated into the toy to match its on-screen counterpart. Designed by Marcel van Cleemput, the Lotus was featured on the cover of the 1977 CORGI catalogue. Heavily advertised in the lead up to its release, the CORGI Lotus Esprit joined several other new models issued in the year that celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. At the time The Spy Who Loved Me was showing in cinemas the country was already in the grip of national patriotism on a scale not seen since the end of World War II. This offering is an original Corgi Lotus Esprit S1 Die Cast replica of this movie car. As can be seen in the photos, the control fins retract into the car to give it more of the original Lotus look. This replica is almost complete, as it is missing the missiles it wouid have originally come with in the 1970's. I am the original owner of this toy.
