DAVID LEACH (1911 - 2005)British potter David Leach was the eldest son of Bernard Leach, known as “the Father of British studio pottery”. He was taught to pot at a young age at the instruction of his father and Shoji Hamada. At the age of 19, David began working at the Leach Pottery in St. Ives, producing everyday functional stoneware taking heavy influence from the Japanese Mingei folk art movement. In 1955, David went on to open his own studio, Lowerdown Pottery.
