Description: I've handled a lot of chess sets in my nearly 40 years in this business, but this is by far the best design, and best workmanship, I've ever seen in a travel set (it is too big for a pocket set, as it is about 9 inches by 9 inches, about 1 inch tall, when open). The set is spring loaded, so the lid closes and latches, and then opens easily when the opening tab is pressed. The boards fold in half, and when all the men are on their original squares you can close the set and men stay in place. I wouldn't advise closing the lid when a game is in progress. The kings are topped with a small dab of gray paint; the queens are topped with red; the bishops are topped with black and white, the opposite color of the army they belong to (white tops for Black bishops, black for White bishops). The style is Staunton. Most attractive is the plethora of extra peg-holes along the edges; these are put there for the captured men. It is well-made of wood. This set is a product of Roumania. If you are a fan of the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit, this item is for you. This will be a big hit for Christmas, Hanukkah, or any birthday. This is not a set for children, as the men, once lost, cannot be replaced. Fun for those who are locked in! We combine shipping-to combine, put everything in a basket and then ask for an invoice. This comes from the private library of Allan Troy, late owner of Troy's Chess Shoppe, Torrance, California. Follow us for our ongoing sale of 18th, 19th, and 20th century chess books and clocks! We are put up a pendulum tilt clock from the 19th century! Because of stay-at-home orders in Arizona and its problems, we are lengthening our shipping time window to 20 business days. We normally ship in less time but we cannot control these circumstances. We regret the inconvenience and hope to return to ten days in the near future.
