These techniques were later assimilated into the modern boot making expertise of Tony Lama himself, who later launched the Tony Lama company of El Paso, Texas in 1911. He went on to go down in history as the most prominent cowboy boot purveyor of all time. Tony Lama boots are made with authentic rare leathers and El Paso style, reflecting the company’s origins in the Mexican border town. The Tony Lama company still sells boots today, but the “Exotic Leather Collection” was premiered in the 1970’s with the collection being discontinued in the early 2000’s. Each Tony Lama “Exotic Leather Collection” boot was made with one unique hide per pair of boots by a dedicated bootmaker, making each pair truly one-of-a-kind. Purchased New with Tags in 1970, due to the rarity of these leathers, these boots cost around $100 ($928.50 today!)
